We hope you have the dates for the 2014 Mission Celebration on your calendar and are preparing to join us for a weekend of celebrating how God is transforming the world through the mission ministry of First Broad Street and our denomination. This annual event both gives us opportunity to celebrate as well as understand where God is leading us in the weeks and months ahead. A host of speakers, missionaries, and workshop leaders from our community and around the world will provide exciting experiences for children, youth, and adults as they interpret the ministry of Christ in bringing wholeness to brokenness through the continued commitment of our congregation in missions.
We will be blessed as we are led by two wonderful speakers known in our denomination for their heart and their passion for the mission ministry of the church. Bishop Paul Leland comes to us
from the Alabama-West Florida Annual Conference. Originally a member of the North Carolina Annual Conference, Bishop Leland was elected to the Episcopacy in July of 2008 before being assigned to Alabama-West Florida. Dr. Jerry Russell, Senior Minister of Fairview UMC in Maryville, TN, returns to us with his passionate challenge to live into the opportunities to be a transformational church through mission ministry. Jerry travels extensively to Central America and Africa in response to God’s direction in his life and ministry.
Joining Bishop Leland and Dr. Russell will be Maria Humbane from Ishe Anesu, a school built by Holston in Zimbabwe. Also joining us will be Mike and Melanie Harris from Raceway Ministries, Taavet Taimla from Estonia, Ray Buchannan for “Stop Hunger Now,” Kevin Bowling with Church Planting in India, Mike Feeley from Henderson Settlement, Brook Atchley with Church and Community in Tazewell District, Marta Cogburn from Jubilee Project, Jim and Bernice Keech with Mission Interpretation of Southeastern Jurisdiction of UMC, Bruce Sites from Friends In Need, representatives from Jackson School Partnership and Jackson Elementary Chorus, Halo Haircuts, and a host of booths representing local and regional ministries and opportunities.
We look forward to celebrating together the transformation of the world through mission ministry here at First Broad Street, and we are excited about the new opportunities of healing and wholeness that will be revealed though this time together. Thank you First Broad Street for your commitment to God’s ministry of transformation! We look forward to being together in February.
