Missions Celebration

March 11-13, 2016

Please mark your calendars for the 2016 Mission Celebration so that you can join us in celebrating where God has been fruitful through the ministries of First Broad Street in healing brokenness and sharing the love and grace of Jesus Christ in our community and around the world. The weekend will be filled with opportunities to hear stories of transformation and healing, with activities for children through adult, including a packaging event with Stop Hunger Now to provide nourishing meals to children in areas of the world facing famine and starvation. We will also hear where God may be leading us to new places and opportunities, to be a hope for the future through God’s faithfulness.

We are blessed and excited to have two keynote speakers who have responded to God’s call on their lives in mighty ways:

Thomas KemperThomas Kemper, a native of Germany, is the General Secretary of The General Board Of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church. Thomas leads our denomination in a spirit of humility, giving life to the mission ministry of United Methodist around the world, while working with the agencies and staff of the United Methodist Church to enable local churches and laity to respond to the needs of the world in the name of Jesus Christ.

Fred DearingRev. Fred Dearing is retired clergy of Holston, having served as the District Superintendent of The Kingsport District in his tenure in Holston. Upon retirement, Fred and Libby accepted the call to serve as District Superintendent of The United Methodist Church in South Sudan. Under his leadership there for the last four years, the churches have continued to grow and become a vital source of healing and reconciliation for a people who have only known war and oppression for so long.

Thomas and Fred will be joined by a host of missionaries and workshop leaders from ministries within our own community, from the region and around the world. We are truly blessed by the commitment of the congregation to the opportunities God provides to be the Living Christ in so many ways and so many places. Please plan to join us in celebration and praise to God for being faithful to the world through the resources and people of First Broad Street United Methodist Church!
