Local missions

Food Pantry

Volunteers assist once a month on Mondays and Fridays to provide food to families and individuals. The Food Pantry is open on Mondays and Fridays from 9:00am- 11:00am.

Furniture Ministry

+
Donations are accepted and volunteers assist in delivering furniture to low-income families in the community. Applications are taken on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 10:00am – 11:00am.

Home Repair Ministry

Volunteer to assist in doing minor home repairs in our local community.

Halo Haircuts

+
Assist community professionals in providing hair cuts at no cost to low-income individuals.

Jackson Elementary School Partnership

Join a group that offers support to administration and teachers at Jackson School with resources and as volunteers.

Friendship Diner

+
First Broad Street UMC and First Presbyterian Church partner in preparing and serving breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays for those in our community. Assist in breakfast preparation and/or join in the fellowship of breakfast with those who attend. Friendship Diner is located at First Presbyterian Church and open from7:00-8:00 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Clothing Ministry

Provide good, used clothing that is distributed in our community and regionally.

Kingsport Community Ministry Center

Volunteer as a receptionist for this community, faith-based financial assistance ministry. This ministry is supported by First Broad Street and other local organizations.

Providence Medical

Providing healthcare at no cost to low-income individuals in our community.

Friends In Need Medical

Provide healthcare on a sliding scale to the working uninsured in our community.

Crossroads Medical

Mobile medical clinic hosted by First Broad Street once a month with volunteer assistance in registration.

Firewood Ministry

Assist in gathering wood from the community, splitting gathered wood, and delivering to low-income families and elderly in our community.

National Missions

Johns Island

+
The High School Youth travel to Johns Island, South Carolina each summer to partner with local congregations and the people on the Sea Islands in repairing and building homes of residents who live there. The college and career age young adults engage in missions on the Sea Islands during Christmas break. First Broad Street has been a partner in mission on the Seas Islands since 1981.

Wadmalaw Island, SC

Project Crossroads

The Middle School travel to Saltville, Virginia each summer to assist Project Crossroads in rural housing rehabilitation. Project Crossroads is a Holston Conference project that addresses the systemic needs of residents in rural Southwest Virginia.

Jubilee Project

Jubilee Project, started in 1991, serves the community by working to meet the economic and social needs of Hancock County, the second poorest county in Tennessee.

Cherokee UMC

Partnering with Cherokee Tribal Council and Cherokee United Methodist Church, people from First Broad Street UMC and other parts of Holston, South Carolina, and Tennessee join in mission and fellowship with the people on the Qualla Boundary through assisting in providing firewood for the winter.

Disaster Response

Our church quickly responds to the needs within our community, nation, and around the world when disasters occur. Through UMCOR, our church has the opportunity to respond through monetary donations, health kits, hygiene kits, flood buckets, and school backpacks.

Red Bird Missionary Conference

Located in Southeastern Kentucky, Red Bird Missionary Conference provides outreach and services that minister to the whole person(spiritual, physical, social, and economic).

Society of St. Andrew

The Society of St. Andrew brings people together to harvest and share healthy food, reduce food waste, and build caring communities by offering nourishment to hungry neighbors.

Henderson Settlement

Located in Frakes, Kentucky, Henderson Settlement strives to assist the people within their area of Appalachia. They focus on helping to make a long term sustainable difference in the lives of those with whom they work, and encourage them and their families to grow spiritually, economically, and socially.

Global Missions

Estonia

First Broad Street has a partnership and we are working to support them in various ways

South Sudan

First Broad Street has partnered with the efforts of Holston Conference in providing scholarships for education, drilling wells, funding agricultural projects and sending teams. Leadership Development and working with the orphans are the current missional focuses.

Costa Rica

First Broad Street supports missionaries in Costa Rica who share Jesus through creating restorative relationships with people in the most neglected and impoverished parts of the country.

Belize

First Broad Street supports Body and Soul Ministries of Belize by sending team to provide medical, dental, pharmacy, and hearing services to the people of Belize.VBS and other evangelical missional opportunities are also available and allow for all individuals to be in mission in Belize. Body and Soul Clinic is located in Roaring Creek in the Cayo District of Belize.

First Broad Street UMC partners with churches throughout the Holston Conference for the Ishe Anesu Project. Children and adults within the congregation participate in the annual hands on mission project and monetary gifts are also sent for support.

Finland

First Broad Street UMC supports Timo and Laura Harkonen, who through Africa Inland Mission, as they serve in Finland among the Congolese refugee population, sharing Jesus with them, and equipping Christian refugees to reach out to the Finns they live among.

Thailand

First Broad Street UMC supports Neiko and Wendy Tase with the Chai Connection in Chaing Mai, Thailand. Neiko and Wendy work to reach people with the Gospel in a variety of countries.
